hi

What? Guilt Free Anti-inflammatory Ice Cream???

Do you suffer from post ice cream consumption guilt?

You can have guilt free ice cream. In today’s post I’ll show you how to make an absolutely delicious guilt free anti-inflammatory ice cream.

But first let me tell you about my long life relationship with ice cream and how I overcome the sticky relationship I had with it.

I remember being about 10 years old (back in Romania) when my mom would send me to a nearby store to get ice cream for me and my brothers. It was a very simple yet delicious ice cream:-vanilla or chocolate. It was wrapped in a special paper just the way you find some imported butter in the supermarket today.

You know what? Very often I would buy the ice cream and eat most of it (mine and my brothers) before getting home. I had a sticky relationship with ice cream since early age…

Later (here in the states) the situation didn’t get much better, I used to buy a pint of ice cream and eat it all at once. In terms of caloric expenditure I could afford it I was exercising vigorously for 15 hours a week or more, so it didn’t affect my weight. My health is another story which I wasn’t thinking about at that time.

I can tell though that I was having guilt feelings after finishing a pint of ice cream followed immediately by shame and then I was  trying to blame an external situation for my inability to stop eating that ice cream. Not a fun place to be in.

The good news is that now I’m in total control of my eating, no more guilt, shame and blame when it comes to what goes in my mouth. If I could do it so can you.

You know the taste buds (those cute organs in your tongue that help you enjoy the many flavors of food) are very flexible, more flexible than the most skilled yogi.

What do I mean by flexible?  I mean they are willing to bend in the direction you steer them. If you expose them all the time to high amount of sugar (think candy, ice cream, cookies, doughnuts, muffins, soda, juice, etc.) they want more sugar and more sugar and the sweeter it gets the more they want—scientifically speaking they have a high threshold for sugar, they can’t detect small amounts of sugar particularly the sweet coming from naturally sweet foods (fresh berries, grapefruit, potato etc.).

The opposite is also true, if you start exposing them to natural forms of sugar (think fruits, vegetables, honey), they become happy with small amounts of sugar, or they develop a low threshold for sugar. The tiniest amount of natural sugar is able to stimulate them so you (the owner of those taste buds) become happy and satisfied  with the sweet taste of real fresh fruits and vegetables, you don’t need to add sugar to make them taste good. That’s awesome news……When that happens the refined sugar starts to taste too sweet, so sweet you won’t like it anymore.  Then bingo you’re freed, you’re in control. No more guilt, shame and blame feelings.

Wait! You need to be patient, this doesn’t happen overnight, like with all good things you must work hard at it. Consistency and perseverance are your friends in this one. Just like training for a marathon, you need to do it every day for so many hours so you can run that race.

Now if you made it all the way here, it’s great, because the recipe I’m sharing with you in today’s Healing with Foods TV episode will help you start training your taste buds.

The ice cream featured today is not only guilt free but a powerful anti-inflammatory food as well:

  • Loaded with antioxidants and phytonutrients from organic mixed berries and cherries
  • Rich in Potassium from banana and coconut water (helps you keep that blood pressure under control)
  • With a good dose of the anti-inflammatory plant omega -3 fats from the flax oil

Remember if it doesn’t taste sweet enough you can add a bit of honey. If you think you can enjoy it the way it is although you’d love it sweeter, than just go for it that’s how your little friends the taste buds will start to lower their threshold for sugar and you’ll gain control over the food.
