MY FAVORITE 2015 FITNESS APPS

My Top 4 FREE Fitness Apps (Muscle and Brain)

Last week I shared with you my top Food and Nutrition Apps. Today I’m going to show you the top 4 FREE Fitness Apps I like, use and recommend. Both for muscle and brain fitness.

#1. Map My Run I usually use this app for outdoors activities. I can check the distance, as well as the pace at which I exercise. It syncs with my IPhone music so I can listen to my favorite tracks as I run or bike. I can select the type of exercise I do. For example, if I want to do HIIT (high intensity interval training), I can choose that setting and play the music that’s timed according to the intervals I do, so no need to use a timer. I say, give this a try.
See here the App description:
“MapMyRun is a fitness tracking application that enables you to use the built-in GPS of your mobile device to track all of your fitness activities. Record your workout details, including duration, distance, pace, speed, elevation, calories burned, and route traveled on an interactive map. You can even effortlessly save and upload your workout data to MapMyRun where you can view your route workout data, and comprehensive workout history.”
#2. Daily Workouts, is like having a 24 hour personal trainer with you, to tell you what exercises to do and set the timer for you. You can choose if you want to workout for 5 min, 8 or 10 at a time. You can set up reminders each day for the exercise you wish to do. You can choose from the following routines: arms, butt, cardio, leg, ab, and even yoga. I think this deserves to be looked up and tried, especially if you need some inspiration and reminders for your workouts.

#3. Pomodoro. This is not a fitness app. It’s a productivity app, which you can use both to get things done, as well as to move your body throughout the day. What I mean by that for example; if you have a desk job, and tend to sit in front of the computer for many hours, it’s advisable that you interrupt the prolonged sitting, every 20-30 min. This has incredible health benefits, which I’m not going into right now. You can check my blog about gravity and your health here. So, here it’s how you can use this productivity app to add movement into your daily routine. You can set the pomodoro for 20 min tasks. After each 20 min work interval pomodoro will give you a 2 min break. During your break you’ll stand up, do some squats, walk around, and move your body, preferably against gravity (up and down and sideways movements). You can also set Pomodoro to give you a 10 min break after 5 or 6 – 20 min working intervals. During your longer break, you can even go for an outdoor walk/movement. I definitely love this one! I use it daily when I’m sitting at my desk (such as now when I write this blog post 🙂 It keeps me productive while I still move my body. Balance!
See App description here:

“Pomodoro Timer helps you boost your productivity using the Pomodoro Technique™, one of the most effective time management methods out there. Not only will you get a fully configurable timer that lets you customize every aspect of the technique, but you will also enjoy a clear and beautiful user interface.”

Peak Brain Training I love this app because it helps me keep my mind sharp. Doing those exercises before starting my work day, or sometimes in the middle of the day has made a big difference in my focus, memory, and overall “mental agility”. Yes, we need to exercise our brain just as we exercise our muscles, so we keep our cognitive functions as we age. This, along with eating whole foods will definitely pay off.
See here app description:
“Get your brain in tip-top shape with over 30 fun games developed by neuroscientists that challenge your cognitive skills. Short daily workouts and personalized games that adapt to your skill level help you improve faster, and in-depth performance analytics let you track your progress.
– Free games that challenge your Memory, Attention, Problem Solving, Mental Agility, Language, Creativity and Emotion Control.
– Learn which categories you excel in, and compete with friends by comparing your brainmap and game performance.
– Get access to Peak Advanced Training Plans: intensive programs that train a specific skill, including the new Wizard memory game developed by Cambridge University.
– Now available for Apple Watch with 3 games that assess your memory and attention.”

This app, just as all the rest, has a free and paid version. I recommend starting with the free one. If you like it, and feel it makes your life better, then go for the paid version. By the way, I’m not affiliated with any of those apps, I simply use them, like them and love sharing them with you.

That’s it for today, stay tuned as I have one more set of awesome apps to share with you:)
