5 Reasons Grapefruit Is A Healing Food

Today’s blog it’s about a fruit that’s in season now (in Florida peak season goes from December through April) and at least 5 reasons why you should eat it often (as in daily).

Grapefruit, it’s the largest of the commercially grown citrus fruit and like all citrus fruits, it’s a good source of vitamin C and potassium. Pink grapefruit is also a good source of beta carotenes (precursors of vitamin A). Grapefruit is well-known as a digestive and urinary system cleanser and even the peel is known to have therapeutic properties.

5 Reasons that make grapefruit a healing food.

* #1. cleanser of the digestive and urinary system
* #2. aids respiration and strengthens the respiratory system
* #3. relieves symptoms of colds and flu
* #4. helps balance the nervous system
* #5. reduces appetite

Traditional uses of grapefruit:

* grapefruit seeds have been use for their anti-parasitic effect
* grapefruit skin has mild exfoliating properties and it is used to treat acne
* grapefruit juice helps clean the kidneys and eliminate toxins from the body
* used to treat colds and strengthen the immune system
* can ease chronic liver conditions and reduce the severity of hangovers (due to its detoxifying properties,)
* due to its vitamin C content supports the absorption of iron from non hem sources (TIP: add some grapefruit juice or lemon juice to your next spinach salad to facilitate iron absorption)
* local massage with essential grapefruit oil mixed with a carrier oil (e.g. coconut oil) may relive the severity of headache
* aromatherapy massage with grapefruit oil is uplifting, invigorating and may help alleviate depression

Enjoy some grapefruit every day especially now in the winter when it’s in peak season. Eat it by itself or add some to your next green blast (AKA: smoothie).
